What will be learnt during the course?

The aim of the course is to learn to prepare a range of tasty, nutritious meals that you can reproduce at home at a reasonable cost. This course will teach you about tasty home cooking, covering sweet and savoury recipes to appeal to adults and children alike. Learners will be able to identify the skills needed for different recipes and gain confidence in preparing dishes using the skills they have learnt. The course is planned to help you work within a limited budget for ingredients, to keep your cookery costs low.

What level is the course? For whom is it appropriate and what skills or knowledge are needed before enrolment? We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. Please let staff know if you require any extra support when you enrol and they will arrange for a member of the Supported Learning Team to contact you. This course is suitable for anyone from beginners to those with some cookery knowledge; an enthusiasm for cooking is definitely an advantage.

What equipment, clothing or textbooks should be brought to the first session of the course? Will other items be required later?

Please wear clothing suitable for working in a hot busy kitchen. Bring an apron, and tea-towels as well as some suitable containers to take food home in.
Ingredients will be supplied.
You may wish to bring a notepad and pen to take notes, and folder to keep your recipes and notes in.
