What will be learnt during the course?

This one day course will help you to:• Familiarise yourself with the functions and features of your own camera• Practise using your camera’s automatic and manual settings to achieve different effects• Understand how to use compose your pictures more successfully• How different lenses, flash and other accessories can be used to enhance your photos• There may be opportunities to take photos outside, weather and venue permitting Some of these topics may be negotiated according to the needs and interests of the group.

What level is the course? For whom is it appropriate and what skills or knowledge are needed before enrolment?

This course is suitable as a stand-alone introduction, or as a refresher. It would be particularly helpful for anybody who has recently purchased a D-SLR.

We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. What opportunities for further learning and progression routes are available on completion of this course?

Longer Beginners and Improvers courses and courses in digital imaging using Adobe Photoshop Elements are offered by Surrey Adult Learning. You may progress to one of the 10 week Beginners courses that runs at the Adult Education centres across Surrey.

What equipment, clothing or textbooks should be brought to the first session of the course? Will other items be required later?

You will need your own D – SLR camera with a memory card, at least one lens and the instruction booklet. Please ensure that the batteries are fully charged. Please also bring a notebook and pen.
